We know… a lot of companies still cringe when hearing the words “social media management”. It is an ever-changing tool that can really elevate your brand and push your mission forward, or it can leave you in the dust. Successful social media strategy takes preparation, great content ideas, and consistency. It can be overwhelming and time-consuming but in today’s society, it’s usually the first place people are going to go to see what you are about.
Here are a few tips from us that are hopefully going to help you.
Content is KEY: Make sure your content is educational, entertaining, innovative & relevant to your target audience. People really resonate with personal content so being genuine, honest, and vulnerable goes a long way. Quality content is what keeps your audience engaged and improves overall SEO by driving traffic to your website. People care about your brand if they feel a personal connection to it so don’t be afraid to give your social media posts a bit of personality.
2. Consistency: In order for you to be at the forefront of people’s minds and build consumer relationships, you must be consistent. We are not talking just about the number of posts you put up on a weekly basis. It’s important to be consistent with your overall visual strategy and the tone of voice you use when relating to your followers. Think of it as an online personality that you are building and make sure you stick to it. Your audience can relate to you much easier if they feel like they “know” you.
3. Engage, engage, engage: This is where a lot of people get it wrong. Simply posting content only won’t work. You need to engage with your audience by responding to comments, liking, and in general engaging with other brands and followers. This means not just reactive but proactive engagement! This is very time-consuming but you won’t be able to build a successful social media presence without it.
4. Hashtags and algorithms: It’s important to understand the algorithms of each social media outlet before putting together your hashtag strategy. For example, Facebook prioritizes the post with fewer hashtags. Instagram is different! The type of hashtags you use will also make a difference. Put yourself in the shoes of your ideal target audience, what hashtags would they be following, searching for and interested in?
And last but DEFINITELY not least…
5. Choose which social media platforms are right for you: Don’t create accounts on all social platforms just for the sake of having them. Set up the ones you know you can do well and be consistent with. There is nothing worse than having a social media presence that’s not thought through and thorough. Also, choose the social media platform that your audience is using as well.
